Dark circles – that unpleasant discoloration of skin under the eyes – can be caused by a variety of reasons. Dry skin, aging, genetic factors, long hours in front of a computer screen, lack of sleep, stress, unhealthy diet … the list goes on and on. While not a serious health problem, they can certainly make you appear exhausted and unkempt. The next time you’re feeling concerned about dark circles and sagging skin, try out one of these easy home-care remedies.
1. Cucumber Slices
Cucumber is known to have great skin-tightening and skin-lightening qualities – that spa cliché isn’t just for show! Cut off a few fresh slices and chill them in the fridge for about half an hour. Once they’re nice and cold, place them onto your eyes for ten minutes, and rinse with water after removal. You can also try a mix of lemon juice and cucumber juice in equal parts, gently applied with a cotton ball or Q-tip on the offending area – again, this can be rinsed off after around 10 minutes. In either event, you should start seeing results within just a couple of days.
2. Raw Potato
Potato has natural bleaching agents which can lighten dark circles and rid the eye of puffiness. Grate a chilled potato to extract some juice, soak a cotton ball in it, and place it over your (closed) eyes. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes, and rinse off with cool water. Much like the cucumber, using whole chilled potato slices is another option.
3. Tomato Juice
Tomato, too, is an effective agent for lightening up your skin tone. Mix 1 teaspoon of lemon juice with 1 teaspoon of tomato juice: applied gently, and rinsed off after 10 minutes, tomato provides visible results in just a day or two.
