A commonly held fitness myth is that you have to be skinny to be fit. This is the story that the mainstream media tells you. But the truth is that fit happens when you work for it. Whether you are a size 0 or a size 16, you can get fit and stay fit. Fit knows no size!
So stop getting discouraged and start getting more active. Here are a few tips to help guide you on your path to fitness.
Throw out your scale, your BMI calculators, and your measuring tapes! This may not be the first time you’ve heard this advice and that’s because it’s the truth. Number obsessions will not help you get fit. In fact, they may actually deter you from getting into shape. Fitness is not a size or a number. It is a state of being. How can focusing on a number squash your journey to fitness? If the scale isn’t tipping your way or you don’t get the measurements you want, then you are far more likely to get discouraged and give up before you have the chance to make real progress in your fitness journey.
Don’t expect overnight results! No matter how hard you worked out today, you’re not going to wake up tomorrow morning 20 pounds lighter than you did this morning. If you want to get into shape and make fitness a part of your life forever, it takes time. It helps to have the right frame of reference. It took your whole life thus far to get the body you have now. So, getting fit can take a while too. If you remember this, you will do just fine. Just be persistent, and (again) don’t get discouraged. Give it time and your hard work will start to show.
