Winter can be hard on your lips. Wind, rain and freezing temperatures plus the dry heat of indoor furnaces can leave your pout looking and feeling dry, chapped, cracked and un-kissable.
Luckily, there are some simple things you can do to lessen the seasonal damage to your lips and restore their former kissable glory without waiting for the seasons to change. Follow these pout-saving tips and your lips will be invincible to the forces of winter.
1. Moisturize. The best thing you can do for your pout is to apply lip moisturizer regularly. Whether you prefer lipstick, gloss or plain balm, virtually every product for your lips is now available in a moisturizing formula and with an SPF. Don’t go out into the elements without it. Apply often for best results.
2. Stay hydrated. We often get thirsty in the summer sun, but it’s easy to forget how important water is during the winter months. Keep your skin, including your lips, soft and supple by drinking plenty of water every day.
3. Brush your lips. It may sound odd, but lightly brushing your lips helps to remove dead skin, leaving them nice and smooth and ready for moisturizing. Apply some Vaseline or lip balm and brush gently with a soft toothbrush that you use just for your lips. Rinse with water and apply lip moisturizer or balm. If you don’t want to use a brush, you can buy special exfoliating scrubs made just for your lips.
4. Don’t forget your lips at bedtime. Use a special nighttime lip product that’s designed to restore moisture to your delicate lips while you sleep. Keep it beside your toothbrush and apply nightly before bed to wake up with a refreshed and rejuvenated pout.
