Are you “stuck” in a happy marriage? If yes, you have many great reasons to celebrate. The only problem with happy marriages is obesity. Yes, you read that right.

Spending a lot of time with someone you love is magical. You hug and cuddle all the time, and you help each other every day. But, science says that happy couples are prone to gaining weight.

A married woman is expected to gain an average of 24 pounds in the first 5-6 years of her happy marriage. These are the results of a study approved by the North American Association for the Study of Obesity.

The same applies for men. They gain more weight than women, and the extra pounds start coming their way before they even get married. Unlike single guys, married men will gain more than 25 pounds.

OnePoll conducted a research to determine the causes of this “phenomenon.” Happy couples tend to dine out, get lazy every day instead of hitting the gym, and let’s be honest, most of you order in.

Happy people do not have problem with their appetite, and now you get the point, right.

This study found that happy people are not really worried about their physical appearance and do not count calories. Being happy means being comfortable in your body. This is actually great!

It takes two to gain weight

If your partner has gained weight, maybe you should step on that scale, too. According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, if one of the partners has gained weight, the other person has 37% of gaining some extra pounds.

The good news is that you can get rid of those pounds together. All you have to do is engage into a healthy routine and help each other. Simple as that.

“We know that close relationships affect the health outcomes of individuals. This data is a clear indicator that couples who support each other in a healthy lifestyle together can reap the benefits of happiness together as well,” explains Dr. Pamela Peeke, an assistant clinical professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Skip your Friday routine, and organize a gym date or go for a long walk. It will help you and your partner lose that belly.

Being in a happy marriage does not mean you should stop taking care of your body. You may be happy, yes, but be happy and fit at the same time. You are doing yourself a favor.
