Back in 2016, the story of an 80-year-old and incredibly fit woman shook us all. The story was a massive indication that anyone, anywhere could get in shape at any age and still feel good at the same time.
Today, the same story inspires us all over again, as Ernestine Shepherd turns 82 and is still looking fabulous as ever!
Born on June 16th, 1936 in Baltimore, Ernestine Shepherd was never a fan of exercising, or not until she turned 56. The secret of this fabulous grandma’s workout journey is a combination of a daily regiment she follows. Typically, Ernestine begins her day at 2:30 am. The first thing she does is meditate, after which she has a protein-rich breakfast. She also likes to walk in the sun, and also goes to the gym at 7:30 am, to lift weights.
Then, Ernestine has a workout class until 11:30, after which she has her lunch and a nap thereafter. As soon as she wakes up, Ernestine goes back to the gym, where she teaches her workout class.
Ernestine first took interest in working out thanks to her sister, Velvet, who said they should ‘try and get into the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest bodybuilding sisters in the world!’
The two sisters made the vow and began working out together. Unfortunately, Velvet passed away due to a brain aneurysm, and Ernestine promised to keep her training going until she reaches their goal.
Mrs. Shepherd shook by her sister’s death, thought about giving up exercising for a while and suffered hypertension as a result. So, she gave up her procrastinating ways and went back to training, more committed than ever before.
When asked what the secret to succeeding is, Ernestine accredits it all to her willpower. She also says that building a mindset of never giving up is the healthiest decision she made for herself, and the one decision that actually paid off.
